We at Arctic Trucks Experience always work hard on making all our trips exciting and adventures for our clients. In December we had 28 people from Russia on a two day trip with us. They wanted to experience the excitment of driving an Arctic Truck in rough Icelandic conditions and snow. In collaboration with the groupleader, we orginised a two day trip and I got so lucky to go with them on this amazing trip!
I greeted the people at the Arctic Trucks headquarters where I took them on a quick tour around our facility and showed them what we are up to. People were most excited to see the 44“ Hilux we have in our shop that has been to the Antarctica. At 09:00 engines were on and 16 cars drove away from the Arctic Trucks HQ.
The first day was great and I got to show the people some of Icelands most popular sights. We saw the beautiful national park Þingvellir, Geysers and Gullfoss waterfall.
After Gullfoss it was time to get off the asphalt road. We drove on a glacier called Langjökull and I was excited to take the people to the glacier because there we got to do some snow driving. Some of the drivers had more experience in driving in the snow than others but most of the cars got stuck and people had to be resourcefull to get them unstuck. I really enjoyed to see how people faced the challange! In the end everyone got down from the glacier in one piece
After the drama in the snow, we drove to the amazing Hótel Grímsborgir where we ate, drank and slept.
Everyone got up early on the second day and we left Hótel Grímsborgir at 09:00. We drove along the famous volcano Eyjafjallajökull to see a glacier called Gígjökull. The road was pretty rough and we had to drive carefully. Unfortunetly we had some damage to one of the cars and me and the other guides made the decision to leave the car behind. From Gígjökull we drove on the black beach on the south shore. To make this day even more special we saw a whale that was rotting on the beach. It was discusting but for most it was a new experience.
After a great day and a great trip we arrived at the Arctic Trucks headquarters around 18:30. Everyone had a smile on their face and said their goodbyes with a memory that will last a lifetime.
