Glacier Crossing & Northern Lights Experience

This tour is all about the extreme driving experience on the Arctic Trucks 38″ modified vehicles exploring the remote areas of Iceland. If you are up for the adventure, you are on the right track!

We take a gravel road over the mountains and head to Húsafell. On the way, we stop at the beautiful Hraunfossar waterfalls before we stop for a light lunch at Húsafell.
From there we will drive towards Langjökull glacier and head up to the ice tunnel.  Into the Glacier ice tunnel is located in Langjökull, which is the second largest glacier in Iceland with the size of 953sq/km. We head to the roots of the glacier and there the guide teaches you how to drive in snow and/or ice conditions on the glacier.
We drive up to around 1280 meters above sea level, where we stop to explore the clear blue Ice Tunnel. Once we are inside, you will experience things you have probably never seen before; a huge ice crevasse, ice chapel and other amazing sights that will make your visit to Iceland an unforgettable adventure.

After leaving the ice tunnel we continue to test the Arctic Truck on the glacier and we will go almost all the way across. In the evening we will camp our Arctic tents and stay over-night surrounded by glacier landscape. We will enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner and the camping experience. If the sky is clear you might see the Northern Lights dancing in the sky.

We will start the next day by having breakfast after which we finish our glacier crossing and continue our way North. Our destination for the day is a mountain hut called Hveravellir where we spend the night. This area has geothermal activity and a natural hot pool right outside the hut, so you can have a comfortable evening bathing after the BBQ dinner. We start the day with breakfast in the hut before the adventure of the day. On the last day of driving we will drive the Kjölur road, one of two highland roads that cross Iceland from North to South. It is a challenging route that goes in between two glaciers; Hofsjökull and Langjökull. There are a few stops we can make on our way back to civilization. If you are interested in visiting the Golden Circle: Gullfoss, Geysir and Thingvellir we include it in the afternoon itinerary. Another possible activity on the way down from Hveravellir is a snowmobile ride on Langjökull glacier. We end this day in Reykjavík city where the guide drops you off at your accommodation.

Note: This tour runs from mid-February – mid-April depending on weather and snow conditions.

Pick up: 08:30 from your hotel or guesthouse in Reykjavík.
Trip Duration: 3 days
Includes: The Arctic Truck jeep and guide/ instructor. Sleeping bag accommodation in an Arctic Tent for 2 nights.
Bring with you: Warm outdoor clothing, good waterproof hiking-shoes, swimsuit and a towel, your camera and some snacks.
Meals: Lunch and dinner on day 1, breakfast, lunch and dinner on day 2, breakfast and lunch on day 3.
Optional add on:  Snowmobiling tour and Ice Tunnel entrance.
